Wild Food People

We recorded this episode live at the Game Fair at Blenheim Palace where Richard Prideaux invited the crowds, celebrities and vendors to be our podcast guest and talk about all things Game Fair. We spoke with dozens of people about wild food, the relevance of the Game Fair to conservation and land management and asked them to put into words exactly what it is that they love so much about this celebration of the British countryside.

Richard stated with confidence in our pre – Game Fair episode that there are 4 types of Game Fair happening simultaneously, and as we observed these playing out over the weekend there was an obvious link between everybody in attendance – we were all there to have a good time, feel a sense of community, eat good food and support this rural sector.

The selection of interviews which you will hear includes words from a gamekeeper, leading countryside and conservation writes, cooking teacher, retailers, hedge layer and professional photographer amongst others, each as passionate as the last. We went with an expectation of hearing a huge variety of opinions, but what we came away with was an unprompted consensus about the importance of wild sourced food and community; Richard sums it up perfectly in his article about our experience at the Game Fair.

We had a fantastic time creating this mammoth episode, it has been an undertaking but hopefully this finished product paints a picture of what the Game Fair is all about. If you would like to find out more about any of the interviewees, we have included links below in the order that they spoke.

We are interested in every aspect of authentic, sustainable and ethically sourced wild food and this podcast covers it all; whether from the sea, river, land or sky.

The Wild Food People podcast is one of the ways in which we are sharing more knowledge about the intricacies of getting started or being involved in foraging, hunting and fishing from practical aspects. We’ll also be talking about relevant news articles and interesting stories related to sourcing wild food, including legal, seasonal, and unexpected natural or unnatural events.

There is no strict episode format for this show, we will discuss news articles on some episodes; and talking with guests about their field of expertise and how they see things working out for wild food into the future. We may also throw in some in-the-field recordings for good measure.
