Wild Food People was born from our love and connection to the British countryside. Foraging, hunting and fishing are part of our cultural identity and heritage - and teaching people how to use these resources ethically and sustainably is what we do.
A Passion for the Field
Wild Food People is a brand operated by Original Outdoors - an established North Wales business that has been working with clients of all types for nearly 20 years.
We have been delivering foraging and wild food training courses and advice to the public, to businesses and to organisations for 15 years.
Wild Food People covers all aspects of wild food training and content, delivered with a passion for nature, the British countryside and authentic wild food.

Our Story
Anything to avoid a real job
Wanting to turn a passion into a career, Richard turned to the mountains and qualified in several of the outdoor leadership and safety qualifications required for leading groups in the outdoors. Working mostly in the mountains of Snowdonia, this led to several busy years of guiding groups in the mountains, leading trips overseas and working on adventure challenges and expeditions in remote areas.
Our first courses
Following on from several years working as a freelance mountain leader and guide on trips in the UK and overseas, Richard started offering short foraging courses and trips in North Wales.
Working with restaurants
Following a conversation with Lord Newborough we were asked to help with sourcing wild plants from across the organic Rhug Estate. These were supplied to restaurants around the world, accompanying deliveries of the award-winning organic meat produced by Rhug.
Branching out
We expand our range of outdoor skills courses under the Original Outdoors brand, working with hundreds of customers every year in the forests and mountains of Snowdonia and the Clwydian Range AONB.
Working with producers
We start working with brands using wild ingredients in their products - from distilleries and food producers to chefs and universities.
Wild food for professionals
We continue our work with professionals who work in the outdoors, expanding our services to include wild food consultancy for organisations who may need to make use of wild food in emergencies.
Certificated training
We start offering certificated and structured wild food training under the EST Framework.
Wild Food People
In 2023 we decided to separate off our foraging and wild food training to a new, dedicated brand - Wild Food People.
Podcast launches
The Wild Food People podcast launches, available on all podcast platforms.
